Egypt/Kuwait/Gulf region: Major disruption in Internet Services. 1 February 08
There is an ongoing major disruption in Internet services in Egypt and Kuwait as well as in telephone communications in the Gulf region, India and West Asia. Approximately 95% of Internet users in Egypt and in the affected countries are unable to access the Internet due to damage to two major sub-Mediterranean cables. Kuwait announced there were two cables that had been damaged causing the disruption. This has been ongoing since 29th January 08. The Egyptian government promised to restore Internet services to at least 80% functionality usingalternative routes within the next 48 hours. India announced that it has restored the Internet albeit it is very slow.
